Following sustained advocacy by VINEFORD and partner organizations, major social media platforms have announced significant improvements to their policies and procedures for removing non-consensual intimate images. These changes include faster response times and improved support for survivors.
Announcements from major platforms:
• Facebook/Meta: 24-hour removal guarantee for reported content
• Twitter/X: Dedicated reporting pathway for NDII victims
• TikTok: Enhanced AI detection for non-consensual content
• Instagram: Improved victim support resources
• Snapchat: New partnerships with survivor organizations
These changes represent victories for survivors and advocates who have been pushing for platform accountability. However, VINEFORD emphasizes that much work remains to ensure consistent implementation and enforcement across all platforms.
"We welcome these commitments, but we will continue to monitor compliance and push for even stronger protections," said VINEFORD's Platform Accountability Director. "Survivors deserve platforms that take their safety seriously."
VINEFORD continues to work with platforms on developing best practices and ensuring that policies are effectively implemented.
