Three states have passed comprehensive legislation criminalizing non-consensual intimate image distribution, bringing the total to 48 states with some form of legal protection. VINEFORD provided expert testimony and model legislation to support these efforts.
States with new laws:
• State A: Comprehensive NDII statute with civil and criminal remedies
• State B: Enhanced penalties for repeat offenders
• State C: Specialized victim support funding
These victories represent years of advocacy work by VINEFORD and partner organizations. The organization provided:
• Expert testimony before state legislatures
• Model legislation based on best practices
• Research data on the prevalence and impact of NDII
• Survivor testimonies and stories
• Technical assistance to drafting committees
"These legislative victories show that when survivors, advocates, and policymakers work together, we can create real change," said VINEFORD's Legislative Director. "We will continue to push for comprehensive protections in all 50 states."
VINEFORD is now focusing on the remaining states and working to strengthen existing laws in states that have partial protections.
